Did you know that the technique of crocheting dates back to the 18th century? And in Ireland in the 19th century, during The Great Irish Famine, crocheting lace became an alternative way for people to make money to put food on the table. Irish Lace became very popular in Europe and America and was a key Irish industry until the First World War. I was first taught to crochet by my grandmother when I was about 8 years old, but it was only recently that I decided to transfer that technique to sterling silver wire. I now LOVE crocheting with wire and am still exploring all the possibilities it offers.
