Did you know that there’s been a Tai-chi craze among the competition Horse riders in California? I recently reviewed a “Tai-Chi for Equestrians” video and found that Equestrians (horse riders) use tai-chi principles in their riding form. I’ve talked to a few riders and instructors about tai-chi in their sport. There are two distinct principles that tie both activities. One is keeping an upright spine especially for the English style riding. The second principle deals with “listening energy.” In this case the sensitivity and awareness of the horse’s movements almost becomes one with the rider. I’ve been asked to demonstrate this while riding by several clubs, but after being bitten on the collarbone then suddenly sneezed on by a horse, (yuk!), I prefer not to. But don’t get me wrong, I admire the liveliness and freewill of horses. Puyallup Activity Center 5:30-6:30 pm
