Did you know that we get 10% of our power from solar panels & that we are @scegnewss 1st downtown solar customer? As one of the few art museums in the nation supported in part by solar power, we have launched a new interactive educational initiative for children with a solar energy display, website, and school lesson plans that builds on the CMA’s commitment to educating the public about solar power and how it helps the CMA operate. The CMA has 177 solar panels on its roof, funded by the South Carolina Energy Office and the US Department of Energy, to help manage its environmental impact. The Solar Exploration Station, installed outside the Wells Fargo Education Gallery in the museum lobby, allows visitors to learn more about solar energy and the Museum’s rooftop solar panels in a fun and creative way. Installed in 2010, the CMA’s solar panels were the first and largest solar energy project in Columbia and the largest commercial project in South Carolina.
