Did you know this?! Re: Incubators for premature/ primi babies Real incubators with babies in them only existed only as a sideshow in 1904 Coney Island, NY an amusement park (Yup where siamese twins and bearded ladies were etc) This was a sideshow for FOUR decades until 1942 This doctor, a Pediatrician and inventor Martin Couney 33 years old, saw so many babies helpless, he invented the incubator, yet after many positive test trials, it was rejected ** he was passionate that his machine of sterile air and water filled tubes for temp control would allow the babies to grow until they could go home. In the early 40s cira the medical community finally excepted his incubator machine.. In the meantime however, He was approached around 1904 soon after the medical community rejected the incubator, by the director of Luna Park in Coney island to use his machine as a feature in the park, people paid .25 cents to see the babies in the machines.. The Doctor was reluctant at first as this could be viewed as exploitation ( being in a sideshow) but the director of the park said thousands of people all around the world see this for themselves .. He ends up agreeing * He defended his sideshow citing it was free hospital and gained a reputation as the Hero Doctor ( nurses worked and cared for the babies there) And babies were being saved.. 6,000 + over the decades Prior to all this, it was thought that these premature babies would not grow into normal humans so no effort was done to save them.. What a man! What an example of doing what it takes ( this is far out there) - putting his reputation and career on the line etc Some of us have grandparents that were alive during this exhibit in New York.. Nuts! #RandomBusinessDeals Xo Kat
