Here is a list of a few of the happenings this week: JANUARY 20 Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Rosalie Turner will be at Pentimento Books from 3 - 6 pm. Rosalie is a delightful and inspirational teacher, writer, and friend. Everyone is invited to meet her and hear her talk about her writing and her passion for people, for reading, for racial reconciliation, for history, for books, for life! She will be signing copies of her newest book, “March With Me”, a multicultural coming of age historical novel. 302 Jefferson Street, Clinton MS. Ron Polk, Baseball First Pitch Event banquet, “A Night with a Legend”: 6 pm, CHS Auditorium, open to the public, and groups (including baseball teams and coaching staffs) are welcome. Each class is taught by a professional educator from the Mississippi Natural Science Museum. Cost $3.00 per child, per session for members of the Nature Center; $5.00 per child, per session for non-members. There is a $1.00 discount per child, if more than one child per family. Live streaming broadcast available at: clintonms.org/board Eastside Elementary School is now offering Zumba classes from 4-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Classes are open to any teacher, parent or community member, and this is an ongoing class that is offered every week. The classes are $3 individually or an 8-class punch card may be purchased for $20. MCs Dr. Angela Willoughby is one of the primary 8 pianists featured in the main program. The evening will end with a rousing rendition of Stars and Stripes Forever with 8 additional pianists joining the original 8, for a total of 16 pianists, 32 hands. Dr. Benjamin Williams (Assistant Chair of Music at MC) Carol Durham (music instructor at Mississippi College, Millsaps and Belhaven) and Mrs. Dottie Serio (music secretary) will join the fray for the finale. The winners will receive a Fastest Kid on the Block T-shirt, certificate, and will take a picture with 2013 Mississippi Miss Track and Field Demi Washington of Clinton! The event is Saturday, March 8. Birth certificates are not required, but students need to show a report card to verify school status. The entry fee is $5 (cash only) and division groups are ages 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Participants may compete in 100m dash, 200m dash, 800m run and/or 1,600m run. Hosted by the Office of Continuing Education, the course will review reading, grammar, math, and science. The cost is $60 per student. Pre-registration is required by Jan. 17.
