Did you read my op-ed in todays Poughkeepsie Journal on energy costs? Any fluctuations to utility bills force our neighbors — especially seniors — to make hard choices, sometimes between paying the bills, putting food on the table or filling a prescription. New Yorkers’ utility rates are already 56 percent above the national average and the second-costliest in the nation, and with many of my neighbors seeing a significant spike this winter, the federal government must look into the increases that have caused bills to double in many cases.
