Did your hospital try to convince you to give formula to your newborn? The 2 most common reasons that I hear from moms as to why they were told that they must supplement their newborn was 1) >10% wt loss & 2) low blood glucose levels even in the absence of symptoms. Neither recommendation is evidence based and do not take into account factors like IV fluids given to mom during birth which can artificially increase the newborns birth weight & the fact that newborn brains can function as well (if not better) on ketones (aka fat).
