Difference between Self enquiry and Meditation: There is an important distinction which seperates Self Enquiry to Normal mediation. Meditation retains the use of mind and requires the mind as a object of focus. Whereas Ramana always advised us to dive into the source of the "I" thought or the mind. Lets take a simple example here to make the distinction more clear. Imagine a rope that is suspended from the top of a tree branch which is covered by a lot of leaves. Mind here is like the rope. Meditation is similar to holding on to the rope and swinging with the rope. Self enquiry is to hold on to the rope and reaching the source by climbing to the top to reach its source.
