Digging for protection from the elements is generally pretty easy to identify. The holes will be near some thing - the side of the house, at the base of a tree or bush, perhaps behind something leaning against the house or under something just sitting like a trailer. This problem can usually be resolved in two dimple steps. First is to be aware of what the weather conditions are like, how they affect your dog and how long they are out there. An older dog with is going to be much more sensitive to weather than a young dog while a dog with arthritis may be very happy to lay in the sun as long as its not windy. Second is to build or buy a dog house. The best place to put them, and the most successful at stopping the digging is where your dog is digging. They chose that location because it gives them the protection they want from the conditions that they want out of.
