Digicel continues to promote community based activities in rural areas and Hula Village in the Central Province is the latest to have witnessed a fun filled day. Digicel helped co-ordinate the launch event of Kite boarding Club in Hula on the 15th of Nov with assistance mostly in kind. A stage for the POM based Betelnut Band who were the official band playing for the event was provided as well as Digicel merchandise including T-shirts, water bottles and balloons to distribute to the participants and locals to ensure a fun day event. Kite boarding is an extreme sport that is new in PNG and Digicel is excited to have been a part of this sport especially at a village level. Hula Village is the most exciting place in PNG for Kiteboarding and is where PNG’s first kiteboarder Nigel Matapere and PNG’s first kiteboarding School is based. The objective of the school was initially to help youths in the village keep themselves occupied through sport and in keeping fit. A growing number of kite surfers visit this spot yearly for the ultimate kiting experience with some of the most consistent trade winds in the world.
