Digital registration of persons in Kenya is long overdue. I concur with D.P Ruto that this is the way to go. There are many benefits if we are to adopt this system. This will enhance better planing and management , promote security and generally ease govt .operations when offering services to the people. That said , I am reluctant to embrace it as the manner it is being introduced is suspect. For such an operation to be undertaken there has to be substancial deliberations at all levels from the executive , legislature and public participation. Its only the other day that the biometrics failed to work. Have they been repaired ? By whom ? Or were they conviniently made not to work inorder to facilitate rigging and now they are back to normal function ? 8B if invested in farming dry lands could greatly increase food security which is a more pressing concern than IDs at the moment. In conclusion digital IDs are neccessary but not at this moment. Perhaps in two-three years time having first dealt with technical matters such as reforms in IEBC then we can cormfortably indulge in digital IDs which can as well be used as voting cards. While so doing the diaspora as well have to be issued with the same as they will be voting in 2017.
