Dina 2003-2014 It was with great sadness that we took the decision to have Dina put to sleep on Tuesday 14th October. She had surgery in August 2013 and came back into work in February 2014. Unfortunately she had a relapse in July 2014 and never came sound. Our plan was to breed from her however it became obvious over the last few weeks that she was not pain free and she was not enjoying life. This coupled with the advice from the vet that she would not be able to carry the weight of a pregnancy lead us to this unbelievably tough decision. In August 2007 mum, dad and I set out on an adventure to Kinross in Scotland to view the 4 year old Dina. It was love at first sight, she was just totally beautiful to me, I was smitten. I had a lot of fun training Dina over the years. She was a horse who loved to work, very clever and loved using her brain. She had such a lot of attitude but learning to put that into her work and having her work with me was what reaped the results in the competition arena over the last few years. Learning this from Dina, along with how to sit to a cracking buck, I take forward with me and I am very grateful to her for that. From our first two prelims at Aintree in August 2008 to our last Advanced Medium at Beaver Hall in August 2013 I enjoyed every minute of competing Dina. Dina and I qualified for the Pet Plan final at elementary in 2012 but did not go to the final due to the herpes outbreak. In February 2013 we were 3rd in the Medium Open music at Bishop Burton winter regionals with 69%. In May 2013 we represented the North West at the Inter regionals where we finished 14th in the medium and our team finished 8th overall. Introducing me to being a part of the North West team and helping me make some fabulous friends is another thing I have to thank Dina for. After this we competed at the Somerford summer regionals at medium open - this was the craziest dressage class I have ever been in - it was like a whos who of British dressage. I loved every minute of our test that day and being a part of a class like that, and Dina did not let me down, she did me proud, and I am extremely proud of our respectable score that day. In July 2013 we competed in the Hickstead Dressage Masters final at medium coming in the top half of a big strong class, and again Dina was helping me to live the dream - riding in the International Arena at Hickstead! In August 2013 we competed our first two advanced mediums gaining 66% in the second. But it wasnt just the competing, she was as kind, affectionate and genuine as she was beautiful. I count myself as extremely lucky to have had the honour to know and learn from such a fantastic girl. Even though she was very quiet our yard is not the same without her. She was very special and has left a massive hole in our hearts. We will scatter her ashes in our bottom field where the daffodils come up in the spring and where we will be able to see her from the kitchen window. I love you Dina, thank you for everything xx
