Dinner Day 264 FAITH IS… Ruling out disqualification… “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” – JOHN 10:27-28 When we walk the walk of faith, we rule out the possibility of ever being declared disqualified in the spiritual race of successful living. My daughter Carol is determined to become an award-winning skier in national competition even though she has had her left leg amputated. It is nothing short of diving inspiration to see how she disciplines her body to qualify for the competitions sponsored each year by the National Handicapped Sport and Recreation Association. It took Carol two years to meet the rigid standards to qualify. I will never forget watching her participate at the Twelfth Annual National Ski Championship in Squaw valley, California. We watched her win a gold medal in the downhill race and a silver in the giant slalom. Then the slalom race was announced. We were waiting for her to come down the hill when the announcement was made: “We have a DNF (‘Did not finish) at the top of the hill: Carol Schuller.” She did not qualify! There is enormous disappointment when you are disqualified. When we are saved by faith, Christ redeems us. He doesn’t put a short-term lease on our spiritual welfare! Christ saves us – forever! He doesn’t select us for His team only to disqualify us if, and when, we fail to live up to His holy standards. He has written our names in heaven’s Book – in indelible ink! He has adopted us as His children – not just accepted us as “Foster children” for a season! He holds us and never lets us go! We may be tempted to let go of Him, but He will not let us ever be disqualified from the family of God! Dear God, today I commit my life and soul to Jesus Christ. Forever and forever! Amen.
