Diosgyor Castle Opens to Visitors The Diosgyor castle in Hungary’s northeast opened its doors to the public after extensive renovations on Saturday. The castle was reconstructed at a cost of 2.714 billion forints (EUR 8.6m), mainly with European Union support, Laszlo L. Simon, state secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, said at the opening ceremony. He praised the project as exemplary in heritage reconstruction in that it was careful to follow original plans of the period. He added that the upcoming Buda Castle royal palace reconstruction project will draw on experiences from Diosgyor, too. The Diosgyor castle, dated back to the 1340s, was rebuilt in full two storeys to include the largest knight’s hall in central Europe as well as a chapel and the queen’s chambers. - See more at: dailynewshungary/diosgyor-castle-opens-to-visitors-in-ne-hungary/#sthash.9ErSIcVF.dpuf
