John Woo: Hong-Kong based, Guangzhou (China) born, Woo is a director, producer and writer renowned for his high impact, fast pacing scenes. He grew up in the slums of his province, and after surgery for a serious medical condition, was educated at a Lutheran school. In his childhood, he wanted to be a minister, however as a shy young lad, he found the refuge and story telling of the movie world his language. With a strong works in Hong Kong, including many nominations for a HK movie awards, he moved to the US to direct movies such as Broken Arrow and Face Off, despite being frustrated by the Hollywood studios who shared a more sedate vision of his films. He is considered the first Asian director to make it in Hollywood.
