Director of Food Service A food service director is needed for work at our Outreach Center. The selected applicant will manage the organization’s programs related to hunger relief including the Community Café as well as distribution of consumer food staples. Additionally, the food service director will assist and work closely with the Community Garden committee to plan and utilize resources from the garden. This position will require approximately 30 hours weekly and is a very “hands-on” position. Being a faith-based, Christian organization and center, the selected applicant will share the values of and work toward the mission of The Journey Home as established by its Board of Directors in the organization’s Guiding Principles, Mission, Strategy, and Goals. (Attached) Reports to: Scott Foster, Executive Director Typical responsibilities include: • Coordinate the efforts of volunteer groups in preparing and serving meals at the outreach center and be prepared to fill-in as necessary in various foodservice roles • Maintain the kitchen, dining area, bread room and food pantry areas in a manner consistent with health department standards and TJH policies • Manage food and supplies inventories working within established budgets • Plan scheduled meals maximizing available food and minimizing waste • Schedule, assign tasks to, and supervise food service assistant(s) • Oversee routine maintenance and upkeep of equipment • Manage vendor relationships and required monthly reporting and compliance • Assist with day-to-day oversight of the foodservice areas of the Outreach Center to insure that clients conform to posted policies and code of conduct Key personal attributes include: A passion for people living on the margins of society usually dealing with poverty, health, mental health, and relational issues A strong desire to serve, as opposed to simply help A patient and positive attitude, including excellent communication and social skills for working with diverse groups and clients The ability to work in “close quarters” with others in a fast-paced environment Typical hours: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Tuesday – Friday (approx.)
