Director of #NASA, Charles Bolden, has asked the public to remain calm when the world enters total darkness on November 22, due to a planetary alignment. The blackout is predicted to last up to 72 hours and will be followed by a solar storm, the largest of its kind in the last 50 years. NASA officials reassured citizens that nothing catastrophic would happen, and that this event is just an extraordinary phenomenon that occurs every 11 million years. It was recommended that citizens do not panic but that they ensure they have sufficient candles and food in stock and also medical supplies. An announcement was first made in June 2011 in a press conference where Bolden highlighted the importance of emergency preparedness. - Reported by Julie Fitzgibbons.
