Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week to kick off July 17 Published: July 16, 2013. Latest update: July 16, 2013. From the Department of Social Welfare and Development The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) will lead the celebration of the 35th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week from July 17 to 23. The event was declared through Proclamation No. 361 (s. 2000) and Administrative Order 35 (s. 2002), which urge all government and non-government organizations to promote and conduct relevant activities for persons with disabilities (PWDs) during the week-long celebration. This year’s theme is “Building an Inclusive and Non-Handicapping Environment for Persons with Disabilities” which promotes the principles and concepts of inclusive development for PWDs. The theme also advocates for the mainstreaming of disability agenda to all government agencies, non-government organizations, civil society and the public in general. The celebration will kick-off on July 17 with “Walk for Justice” at the Quezon City Memorial Circle with some 1,000 PWDs and representatives from government agencies, non-government organizations and the private sector joining the event. Activities lined-up for the celebration include: launching of priority lane for PWDs and launching of Sensitivity Training for QC Prosecutors at the Quezon City Hall on July 17, Product Conference and Trade Fair, exhibit of artworks and products made by PWDs at QC Memorial Circle, and Forum on 10 Goals to Make the Rights Real for PWDs on July 18. Other events are: “Paligsahan ng May Kapansanan sa Kasaysayan at Kultura ng Pilipinas;” Wheelchair Art Parade, Sculpture and Poster-Making Contest; Forum on Access to Justice for PWDs on July 20; MOVE Manila Run 2013 and Fun Day for Children with Disabilities on July 21; Forum on Training and Employment Programs/Projects of TESDA, DOLE, DTI, and ECC; and commemoration of the birthday of the national hero and sublime paralytics Apolinario Mabini in Polytechnic University of the Philippines Sta. Mesa and Tanauan, Batangas, on July 22. Closing ceremonies of the NDPR Week celebration will be held at SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City with a thanksgiving mass and Sensitivity Disability Campaign on July 23.
