Disappointed to report that passenger service south of Whittier will remain suspended tomorrow as Alaska Railroad crews work to shore up an 80-foot washout under the tracks at Skookum Creek. Motorcoach transfers will be available for booked passengers; to cancel or reschedule, guests may call 907.265.2494 (7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). Here’s footage from Tuesday, when high water eroded the trackbed, leaving the track suspended over the water. Alaska Railroad maintenance-of-way responded immediately, sending repair crews, heavy equipment and a work train to the site.
