Discipleship Series; 31 August, 2013 (NKJV) Luke 11:4, And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us... Forgiveness is a key component of the Christian faith – we are made righteous and remain so by receiving forgiveness of and from God, Ephesians 1:7, In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. The reason why Jesus Christ came was to bring us salvation; Matthew 1:21, And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins, so we can become acceptable to God. At the heart of salvation is forgiveness of sin; Luke 1:77, To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins. Whoever does not get forgiven his sins cannot be saved – such a person is at enmity with God. But here is the snag, it is found in the second part of today’s text – For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. We are able to ask and receive God’s forgiveness because we are able to give it to others, first. Beloved, this equation is quite simple; before we can ask God’s forgiveness, we should have been giving it to others – else, we may not receive God’s forgiveness, bearing in mind that no sin/sinner can enter into heaven or see God. Hebrews 12:14, Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.
