Disclaimer: I am an EDUCATOR not an INDOCTRINATOR. I did not come to the Gulf to Westernise Arabs and the youth! Yes I will teach them American literature but I will also explore aspects to incorporate their culture into the curriculum! Just like we were taught in graduate school-respect for the students culture! The reason why the youth here do not read because most of what we teach them doesnt even relate to them! Arabs gave a lot to Western civilization and as an African-American whose history has been rewritten and distorted I would be a hypocrite to NOT include the contributions Arabs have made to the Western world! If it wasnt for Arabs we would not have algebra, our number system and even many of our English words have not just Latin but Arabic roots! In addition to countless other contributions the Arabs made that the ancient Greeks took credit for! On an afterthought: I wish I can get with Carter G. Woodson and write a part two of the book The Miseducation of the Negro- the effects of colonization beyond the Negro race!
