SPERRY3 Jackson I adjusted my grip on the control sticks, aimed down the sights and squeezed the trigger. The twin twenty millimeters guns were so powerful that rattled me in my seat. I wiped the sweat from my forehead and swiveled the turret around. The airship shuddered and suddenly swung sideways, sending my shots wide. I grinded my teeth, adjusted my aim and fired again, sawing a jagged cavern through the deck of the airship beneath me. “If this idiot pilot Maxis could keep the ship study for just one moment!” I thought angrily as I adjusted my aim, lined up the engine on the enemy airship and squeezed the trigger. Click. I cursed and yanked on the reloading chain. It came away from its place and fell into my lap. Swearing through my teeth I reached down and yanked a lever, jerking the sperry back to its ready position and opening up the hatch. I clambered out into the smoggy, hot and cramped interior of the airship. The grate floor swayed again beneath my feet and I staggered sideways before falling into a mass of pipes. ‘where the bloody hell is the manual reload on this junker!’ I hissed coming to my feet and trying to keep my balance as I strolled towards the front of the ship. I racked back one slide, found an ammo crate and started dumping in the huge twenty millimeter shells. The bullets would go on there merry way along a flexible “magazine” until they got to the sperry turret, where they are pressed into the chamber and fired. OF course this whole chain of events would normally happen automatically but some idiot didn’t build his ship prop- The airship bucked and angled down sending me face first against the hard metal of the inside of the hull and cutting off my train of thought. I grunted and tried to come to my feet but the ship rolled onto its side sending my rolling across the wall, which was now the floor. Cursing I pressed my face to the viewport, my face paled. The ground was approaching. How drunk was this pilot for Christ sake! Why isn’t he pulling up? I leapt to my feet and started running to the back of the ship panic clear on my face. Through gaps in the deck above me I could see the rapidly deflating helium balloon and the plumes of smoke being shot up the engine. The ship groaned in distress as it angled vertically. I clung to a pipe, breathed a prayer and braced myself for crash. And with a sound like the worlds biggest bomb exploding my vision went black.
