Disgusting and sad. I wish the College would simply have the police respond to investigate properly instead of handling FELONIES internally by non-police trained security and not reporting them. I know many of the campus safety officers (non-police) and they truly do care and do the best with what they have to work with. They are as frustrated as anyone with the process the college maintains. It should be realized that the college has maintained a room full of scheduled narcotics and controlled substances that they dont turn over to police, violating State and Federal drug laws as only doctors/pharmacists and police/DA and federal law enforcement are the only authorized personnel to store or possess those items. As a former police officer and Detective I have first hand experience with this. Its impossible to make a criminal case when its reported weeks or months after the fact, with physical evidence destroyed or compromised by campus security, again just doing what theyre told. instead of police specially trained in handling of evidence and crime scene investigation. I hope this story kicks the doors in that college intentionally shuts to police to maintain their reputation and control, in what they conceive to be the best interest of the student. I commend Anna for having the courage to come forward and even more to return with her head held high, planning to help other victims. Im glad that her father, a retired police officer, pursued this with her to this extent. #NYTimes #HWSColleges
