Dishwasher update: after my first attempt to fix it taught me that not only did I have no idea what a burnt out circuit board looked like, but I can make things worse (I broke something else), last night I dived in to have a go at fixing the new problem I introduced when I tried to fix the first problem. This time I managed to give myself an electric shock. And cause some arcs, zaps, a bang and some smoke. It will perhaps not surprise you that I didnt manage to fix anything. Deciding that discretion was very much the better part of valour, I found a second hand dishwasher on gumtree last night, and installed it this morning. It seems to be working fine. Total cost? $90. Plus my dignity. Much cheaper than a repair man or replacement parts. Though dignity cant be bought.
