Dismal Weather Ahead, But Not Much Rain Foliage Report SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Record warmth was observed in the Pioneer Valley on Sunday, as the high at Westfield hit 85° (previous record: 81°/1948). The high in Springfield, observed at Westover, hit 83° and tied the record set in 1959. Moving forward, the weather will turn dismal as temperatures drop considerably for the new workweek. Overnight, mostly clear skies and calm winds will result in temperatures in the low to middle 50s. The average low is 48°, so it be several degrees above average. Patchy fog is expected, too. Tomorrow will be primarily dry with partly cloudy skies. A cold front will slip south through the region late in the day, so temperatures will still make a run at 80° in the afternoon. An isolated shower or two is possible. Tuesday and Wednesday will both feature mostly cloudy skies and the chance for an isolated shower as an upper level disturbance moves overhead. The flow will also be off the Atlantic Ocean as high pressure in Canada and a low pressure system in the Atlantic generates northeasterly winds. As a result, temperatures will be stuck in the middle 60s, at best. Thursday looks dry as a small wedge of high pressure moves overhead. Temperatures will make it into the lower 70s. Beyond that, a cold front will move through on Friday or Saturday and bring another risk for showers. None of the next 7 days, however, feature a washout. Rain is needed, as moderate drought conditions are present in southeast New England.
