District 31-5A Valley View Sputters Lead as Sharyland Pioneer Wins First-Ever District Game (Mission, Tx)-We want to make the playoffs, said Sharyland Pioneer (3-2) head coach Jason Wheeler as they defeated the winless Valley View Tigers (0-5) 28-7 in their District 31-5A opener on Thursday night at Richard Thompson Stadium. For Wheeler, it was his first district win in his career as a head football coach. The Tigers simply, just blew it. With a depleted roster, the Valley View HS players, if not most of them, played both ways throughout the night. And it just cost the Tigers the fourth quarter energy needed to stay ahead. Sharyland took advantage of a two fumbles, one blocked punt, all in the fourth quarter to score 21-unanswered points, to win 28-7. I am proud of this team for their efforts and we will keep fighting back, said Tigers head coach, Ubaldo Pena. The Tigers, ahead 7-0, missed another scoring opportunity inside the Pioneer 10-yard line. After three tries to score, the Tigers went for a field goal try and the kicker missed. The Tigers are the Class 4A Soccer finalist from 2014. (HSSMImages/Alec Amador)
