Divided by Unions (Letter published in Herald Sun, 9 Sept 2013) Why did Labor’s primary vote fall to the lowest level for 100 years? The answer, according to Labor survivors, was disunity. But what about policies? With one or two exceptions, these did not reflect the needs of modern society. Giving unions very favourable treatment was way out of kilter and their aggressive behaviour was a major contributor to seat losses. True, Tony Abbott said little about it. He didn’t have to because it was all too visible. Unless Labor wakes up to the union problem, Abbott is in for the long haul. Des Moore, South Yarra.
