Divine people - Namastey I laughed out loud when I read this one in today’s newspaper. “Since my house burned down I now own a better view of the rising moon”. -Miguta Masahide, poet and samurai.” I am not a samurai, though I could call myself a poetess, but I could, I did write these lines myself last year when cyclone “Thane” in which the gigantic waves of the Bay of Bengal, tore our huge eastern garden wall down. What a loss! Lakhs of rupees. No protection from rapacious FISHER FOLK AND STRAY DOGS NOW. Vulnerable. Open to predators of all kinds, both two-legged and four. Yet, I could not help but exclaim when the sun rose the next morning over the vast waters, throwing lovely soft light on all the plants and trees in the back garden: Now that the wall is down what a lovely sight, Is the rising sun over the vast ocean waters! Great men think alike, and great women too! Perhaps I should take up wielding the sword! How lovely are positive thoughts, soul food for the mind, heart and soul. Hatred, pettiness, anger, regret, depression and despair are “junk foods”. Why are we so addicted to them? Why should we not nourish our souls with elevated thinking all the time? Not to be outdone, students in residence added: we can now call this “Sea View Ashram”, I also recall telling Swamiji when we first came to ICYER “ It is a beautiful place. But it is too far from the Ocean!” Yes! Those days the water was almost ½ Kilometer distant from our wall. Global warming, we live daily with that reality as our coast erodes not inches, but feet at a time. Still ! Think positive! At least we still have a small space on which to stand! Hundreds of thousands of people in the Himalayas saw their homes collapse into the arms of Ganga Ma, before one could even say : Hari Om ! Just a few weeks ago. Here are a few more positive “health food thoughts” for you and me to savour together. * There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. – Albert Einstein * When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. – Franklin D Roosevelt * Don’t get discouraged ; it is often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock. – Unknown * Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. – James M Barrie Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened - Dr. Seuss - Thinking of you and grateful for your presence in our lives. Affectionately Yours in Yoga, AMMAJI
