Do I call it a wake up call or a short term measure just to win - TopicsExpress

Do I call it a wake up call or a short term measure just to win elections. I was reading Todays Punch, page 4, with the title APC govs woo workers, appease member anothers. Below is the summary! In Oyo state, according to the report in Punch, the PDP victory was a huge shock and scare to APC stalwarts and they have restrategised, the plan is to refocus toward the people of the state and grassroots! Osun is a nightmare, to become people oriented, Osun government has suddenly started working toward people oriented policies. Salaries of workers has started coming in time, even unions like OYES members have started receiving salaries, which are owed for months. Public taps which has been dry for months has started working in some areas. Same story in Ogun state as the governor has launched a Welfarist agenda aimed at paying more attention to the peoples welfare! Civil servants now receive salaries on 24th of every month (starting June) as against 10th or 15th of next month. In Kwara, its now about youth empowerment programmes, grassroot moblisation and empowerment of artisan, traders, commercial drivers and cyclists! Even students are being wooed! All elected officers has been asked to redouble their empowerment agenda and programmes. They have moved a step further to field only popular candidates as against chosen and imposed candidates. In Lagos, there has been marathon of meetings between Fashola and the 20 Local Government chairmen as well as 37 Local development councils! And so in Rivers, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa etc Now my take is this 1. This is a good development! The power of the masses has shaken the big and the mighty who are alienated from them, who feel building only roads and edifices is the way to deliver dividend of democracy. People oriented policies are springing up 2. APC seems smart because while their stalwarts are making noise and sending propaganda, they are working hard to refine and restrategise! In the end, the masses will benefit 3. Its clear that we hold the power and we can decide who rules and who will fail! Ekiti did it, even with notable achievements of Fayemi, though not people oriented or empowerment enough, according to a top notch, repiars work of Fayemi cost him! Now we can replicate this in other states where governors scorecard will determine their chances, can we do this??? 4. So it took the failure in Ekiti for governors to realise that they are alienated from the people they were supposed to lead? That their policies are not people oriented? That they can actually do something right if they want to, that water can run in public taps and salaries paid in time? Why was these done before? Why is it being done now? Thats hypocrisy and I dont buy it! This means, that once they win in 2015, they go back to the same policies and wait until few months to election, to start being nice. Pathetic as it may sound, the masses are wiser! APC and PDP governors need to show us much more than this. Its no more about party but individuals! We must select credible leaders, and give serious RED to jokers who manipulate and play us as jokers. 2015 will be interesting
