Do You Have a Self-Serve Mentality? Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Luke 6:38 NIV) In Luke 6:38 Jesus tells us that as we give it will be given back to us in good measure, pressed down, and shaken together along life’s way. The other day I got into a cafe and I saw a sign in big letters, SELF SERVE HERE. Before I became an heir of the eternal Kingdom of God, my attitude was the SELF SERVE MENTALITY. When I pulled up to anything I wanted, in effect, I said to myself, “ENOUGH FOR MYSELF FIRST!” The principles of living the Kingdom life teach us life does not consist of the abundance of things, and that we should labor for the food that leads to eternal life. We find an increasing life of fulfillment as we practice giving or investing in what matters to the Lord Jesus Christ. When the “time bubble” in which we find ourselves pops, and we suddenly find ourselves in realm of eternity, we will be very glad we invested in eternal values while we were in this world. God’s values and priorities should increasingly become our values and priorities. I remind myself from time to time what John the Baptist said, “He must increase and I must decrease.” This is a great mindset for the person living the Kingdom live to have regarding Jesus Christ. As you begin this last week of September, ask yourself: Is God increasing in my life and am I, the “self,” decreasing? Such an attitude will echo into eternity. Have a blessed selfless week ahead.
