Do former felons have the right to vote? The short answer is yes, - TopicsExpress

Do former felons have the right to vote? The short answer is yes, they do! But as discussed today in the Advocate, the long answer is slightly more complicated. A person convicted of a felony in Louisiana may have their registration reinstated, but must appear in person and prove to the registrar of voters that they are no longer under an order of imprisonment. This is good, but it could be better. The ACLU of Louisiana supports reforms which would allow reinstatement of former felons’ right to vote at the time of their release, so that they can vote before their parole or probation ends. There is no need to continue punishing those who have served their time by withholding this important right.
