Do some good this Christmas Christmas is almost here, a time for us to share A time to be together, to show one another we care Its time to chat and to reminis And under the mistletoe give each other a kiss A time to drink nice warm mulled wine And to realise were lucky and all is fine And with our wine a lovely mince pie Feeling warm inside we give a big sigh Then we put our present under the tree A big one from you and a little one from me And then we realise how lucky we are We have a nice home and a little red car But others arent as lucky as us Some too unwell to even catch a bus Millions of people at Christmas are alone Sat there starring at their none ringing phone Sat all alone feeling ever so sad Christmas for them is not good, its real bad So if you know someone whos lonely and alone Check theyre ok, take some food to their home Or better still, invite them to yours Make them feel welcome as you open your doors Some are ill others are eaten up by grief You could make a difference and bring them some relief And when you pass the poor souls on the street Dont look down on them cause theyve no shoes on their feet Dont stare at the man with his black bag in a buggy Dont call him a piss-head or a down and out druggy These are human beings whove just hit on bad luck So dont treat them like theyre not worth a buck Take them a blanket and give them hot food Give it with a smile and show them youre not rude Christmas is for giving so give a bit of yourself Thatll mean more than all of your wealth Give people time and show them you care Dont just walk by or stand there and stare And when you go back to your nice cosy home Youll know youve done good for the homeless and those alone! 💖 © Lynn Blackmore 2011
