Do we have a label attached to us? Salafi? Jihadi? Sufi? Ikhwani? Takfiri? Tablighi? Ibn al-Qayyim regarding characteristics of the people of servitude mentions: ...and they not affiliated to any name: that is, they are not renowned to people by particular names which they are known by. Also, they do not restrict themselves to particular actions which they are know by, and yet not others. This in it self is a defect in servitude [towards Allah] as this is restricted servitude . As for unrestricted servitude [towards Allah], the person is not know by particular names... Ibn al-Uthaymeen explaining the above statement says: ...so be careful not become restricted to a particular worship, to the extent that you can not move away from it - even if the other acts of worship were better! This is like the worshiper who adheres himself to the mosques - house of Allah, the best of houses - however, he does not even address himself once to go and seek some knowledge. Likewise, you find students of knowledge eager on seeking knowledge, revising, researching, yet, you hardly find him praying at night, or praying the mid-morning prayer or remembering Allah - so he limits him self to only one thing. The true worshiper moves from one act of worship to another dependent upon what necessitates benefit... Sharh hilyatu talib al-Ilm, p.227-228 :o) Shared Via Abu Siyaam.
