Do we need more scientists in Parliament? In yesterdays Evening Standard, Rosamund Urwin made the case for Parliament scientist recruitment drives and for every new MP to receive a science refresher course; tackling an issue as vast as climate change requires both leadership and scientific rigour. A couple of years ago, we held a debate on the same issue: bit.ly/1lZD3Lm Some people argued that qualifications aren’t the only way to learn about science and nor are they a guarantee that people will make decisions based on sound evidence. Others argued that MPs who understand how science works are less likely to dismiss the evidence just because it does not match their “gut feeling”. What do you think?
