Do we pay same level of attention to our internal systems as much - TopicsExpress

Do we pay same level of attention to our internal systems as much as we pay for our external aspects. For example, do we care what we put in our stomachs daily as much as we care for our skin, faces, hairs, clothes and other external aspects. Are we not turning into a selfish robots if our efforts, actions, looks, personality, etc are always shaped by the outside forces? Intrinsic motivation that we derive from our work is far superior to extrinsic motivation where our actions are primarily driven by the external rewards/incentives. The degeneration of internal ethics is giving rise to multiple external control systems which will prove futile and costly in the long-run. How do we reinforce our traditional ethical values which proved effective despite lack of many extenal control systems?
