Do you believe? I am most blessed with an incredible job. Nevertheless, there have been recent changes with my hospital that led to some questions regarding the stability of the practice of hospital-based physicians. I have also been contacted by other groups for the possibility to join them. After 14 years, it is perhaps time to move on to other career challenges. Two days ago, March 18 marks the 19th anniversary of my mothers death. That morning, Barbara (one of my staff technologists) came to tell me that her patient wanted her to tell me that your sweetheart is here. I had discovered this patients breast cancer almost 14 year ago. She now has some vague complaints so I asked her to proceed with a breast ultrasound. Meanwhile, Nga (another staff member) said that she did not feel well and applied an ointment that my mother used frequently. So, the whole place was now smelling like my mother. I went into the ultrasound room to see the patient with Shadi (my sonographer). Without any prompt, she started to tell me to not quit and that they needed me. Then, she told me to take 6-7 weeks off. I asked her what I should do in that time. She said What about Missouri, which is close to Arkansas?. Now, you may say Missouri? but to me, it was starting to make sense. I had registered Ethan for a 2 weeks camp in Arkansas this summer. Then, she said What about the Gulf of Florida? They have white sand there. Hmm, I had planned to be in Miramar Beach for a few days in August . Then, she said What about Chicago? You can take a train from there to Canada. Of course, I was planning to be in Chicago after July 4th and I had in fact made hotel reservation. My mother was watching over me. When I was about to finish my report on this patient, I saw her birthday (September 17-same as mine). Do you believe?
