Do you ever notice an exceeding amount of black people that flock toward Khemet and probably have no connection at all with Egypt?? Well that might not be so true.. In the 15th Century an empire arose in West Africa called the Songhai Empire. The Songhai Empire composed of of Niger and Burkina Faso, held the famous trading stronghold "Timbuktu". This was crucial because despite the large Islamic influence on the empire itself, most of its teachers and merchants were of Egyptian ancestry. This was lucrative because it provided this rising empire with a cultural ambivalent view that encompassed East and West Africa. However, it came at a cost..during the slave trade, the Songhai were also involved with the Portuguese in providing slaves, many from Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon etc..but when the Portuguese were tired of the faulty mercantilism, they began enslaving members of the Songhai Empire itself. As a result, many of the aspects of Khemet was actually brought to the New World and ingrained in some aspects of afro american culture like a lost strand of DNA for a few centuries. This spiel is important because there will come a day where blacks in america and the Caribbean will come back to Africa..they will know the history and the knowledge..Brethren in Africa must readily accept them despite our fragmented past of selling out each other, because just like the Songhai, if we sell each other out, we will cease to exist. ~ Ori
