Do you ever think about your ancestors? Or about your distant - TopicsExpress

Do you ever think about your ancestors? Or about your distant relatives whom you may have never met but you somehow feel connected to? Perhaps you have a photograph of them, and as you look at their faces you see yourself. Many of us are descendants of people who made sacrifices so that we could live “a better life.” It is so critical that you take time to learn about your history, learn about your ancestors, learn about your heritage, and instill some of the traditions of their day into your life. This past weekend I visited Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, GA and Marietta Confederate Cemetery, Marietta, GA. I walked both cemeteries row by row, section by section, until I passed by each headstone of our boys. I cleaned headstones off and straightened and untangled flags placed at some of the them. It was so hot and humid, but as I read each headstone, I knew our ancestors suffered thru conditions so much worse than the heat and humidity I was dealing with that day. As I walked, I took photos of so many individual headstones. Something drew me to each one of them and to learn the names of the individual soldier and what state and regiment they fought with. There is no better way to honor our ancestors than by keeping them close, and keeping their memory alive. Along the way, you may discover that they really are closer than you could ever have imagined. There is something very peaceful about spending some time with our boys. It’s a calm that can’t be described, but only experienced and felt. The daily attacks and assaults against our heritage and ancestors were nowhere near my thoughts……just one on one time with each one. Letting them know that I have not forgotten a single one of them, even those without a name, and never will! Deo Vindice!
