Do you grind your teeth at night, or know someone who has TMJ - TopicsExpress

Do you grind your teeth at night, or know someone who has TMJ problems? TMJ stands for Temporo Mandibular Joint - we all have this joint but for some people they can become very tight. Two of the main muscles involved in mastication or chewing are shown below. The top one is Temporalis, the bottom one is Masseter. Both can develop trigger points and can cause the jaw to become tight and even refer headaches, see the second picture. This is something that physio can treat and manage really well using dry needling and soft tissue release, even stretching and mobilization of the jaw. Do you know someone who does grind their teeth? Maybe share this post with them, or even encourage them to have a read of our TMJ blog afinebalancephysio.au/index.php/blog/173-temporomandibular-joint-disorder.html Picture 1 from Human Anatomy Atlas app by Visible Body Picture 2 from Muscle Trigger Points app by Realbodyworks
