Do you have any old computer equipment you no longer want and probably will never get around to putting on ebay? Please share, too. From a friend: I am involved with a small charity in Kensal Rise in London who have started a Saturday Homework Club and remedial maths and English classes, for the young people aged 8-16 locally. They work with those who are either struggling with school work or who want extra help in a quiet environment and with laptops that they dont have at home. This club is taking place near a very diverse and run down estate, with a multitude of ethnic backgrounds living in the community. An unexpected extra result of the club has been much more social cohesion amongst the young - rivalry and gang issues have improved immeasurably which is wonderful. The club is hugely oversubscribed and equipment is sparse. I was wondering if any of your contacts might be upgrading computers/laptops with Christmas coming and might want to donate anything they no longer need to this excellent enterprise. At the moment there are 3 laptops for 21 young people to use. Age Unlimited, which is my charity, is paying the staff costs to run these courses but the centre could also do with another teacher so that they could put on more classes - if anyone is interested in knowing more, then of course I would be happy to give them more information about the project.
