Do you have what it takes to run Monmouthshire County Council? Want a new skate park? Fed up with boring school dinners? Got a suggestion about improving your community? Wish there was something YOU could do about it? Well now’s your chance! We’re inviting young people across Monmouthshire to enter a new competition. We’re offering eight young people the once-in-a-childhood chance to run our council for a day! As acting chief executive at our Usk HQ, you will: Rub shoulders with councillors, cabinet members and executives Oversee proceedings in council meetings (and cast a vote); and Have Chief Executive Paul Matthews at your beck and call – as your personal assistant! But it’s not all work and no play. During the course of your short but fun-filled day (9am – 3.30pm), you’ll also receive: A personal tour of County Hall A special winners’ dinner for you and your parents or guardian(s) with Paul Matthews, Council Leader Peter Fox, and select members of the cabinet And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll bag a host of goodies from the lovely people at E2C, the online hub for young people run by Monmouthshire Youth Service. It’s also highly likely that your picture will appear in a number of local newspapers, so you could become quite famous, too! So whether you’re planning to become the next prime minister or local councillor, or if you simply have an interest in your local community, this is the perfect competition for you! Remember you can tweet about the competition using the hashtag #runMCC Good luck! Who can enter? If you’re aged between seven and 18 (or will be by the closing date of Friday 28th February 2014), and live in the administrative boundaries of Monmouthshire County Council (ask a parent or guardian if you’re unsure), you’re free to enter! Key dates and how to enter: The Run MCC for a Day competition opens on Monday, 20 January. To enter, simply answer the following question in a maximum of 100 words: “If I was in charge of MCC I would…”.
