Do you have your phone number listed in your e-mail signature, or on your web site? Listen up everyone! Lets talk etiquette with phone numbers and technology. It might seem a little thing, but its a HUGE pet peeve of mine and an unnecessary inconvenience. Listen closely, here it is. PUT A 1 IN FRONT OF IT!! Yes, that one little digit means that customers, prospects and other people who really want to talk to you can simply click on your phone number from your e-mail signature or web site from their mobile phone (which Im going to bet you 80% of your contacts have tried to do at some point), and reach you from anywhere within North America (if you live outside of that, add your country code for heavens sake!). I cant tell you the number of times I have tried to call a business from my mobile to give them my money, and could not get through because the phone number they listed did not have the 1 in front of it. Then I have to write it down and manually dial the number with the 1. Yes, Im capable of that, but when Im in a hurry its annoying, and there are businesses I have not called back because of this. So, go right now, please, and add that precious 1 to all phone numbers you have listed electronically, including 800 numbers (they are useless without the 1) so more people can reach you quickly and give you their money. One last tip! If you e-mail or text someone a number to call you at and dont add the 1, you are equally annoying. The phone system will either drop the 1 if its not needed, or give me a little reminder I dont need it next time, but at least the call goes through! I know your world or business is local in your mind, but in mine its global. Think big people, please.
