Do you know what you’re eating? We’re a few weeks into the New Year, and many of us are well into a new #diet or nutritional change that we adopted in order to improve our #health. While some may already be noticing some great results - clothes are fitting looser, energy is up, and exercising is becoming easier - some individuals may still not be seeing the results they expected. You’re eating fewer calories and you’re exercising more, so what’s the problem? The problem, as I’ve come to learn, is that not all calories are created equal and, no matter how much you increase your #workout routines, if you’re eating all the wrong foods, you’ll never get the results you’re looking for. I’m not talking about simply cutting out Big Macs and donuts, and substituting them for chicken wraps and granola bars, I’m talking about eliminating ingredients from your diet that are harmful to your health. Ingredients such as: #sugar, #highfructosecornsyrup, #hydrogenatedoils, #artificialsweeteners, #preservatives, #transfat, #artificialfoodcoloring, and many other unnatural food additives. These are ingredients that your body is unable to process. So, they get stored, usually as fat, plus have been known to contribute to many diseases; including #obesity. The problem, unfortunately, is that many so-called “diet” foods contain a long list of unnatural ingredients. For example, if you look at the ingredient of many of these so-called low-fat bars you’re snacking on, you’ll see a laundry list of ingredients; many of which you may not even be able to pronounce. When really what you should be eating is whole, unprocessed foods that nourish your body. Below is the ingredient list of a Quaker® Chewy 90 Calorie Granola Bar: GRANOLA (WHOLE GRAIN ROLLED OATS, BROWN SUGAR, CRISP RICE [RICE FLOUR, SUGAR, SALT, MALTED BARLEY EXTRACT], WHOLE GRAIN ROLLED WHEAT, SOYBEAN OIL, WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR, SODIUM BICARBONATE, SOY LECITHIN, CARAMEL COLOR, NONFAT DRY MILK), CORN SYRUP, BROWN RICE CRISP (WHOLE GRAIN BROWN RICE, SUGAR, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR, SALT), SEMISWEET CHOCOLATE CHUNKS (SUGAR, CHOCOLATE LIQUOR, COCOA BUTTER, SOY LECITHIN, VANILLIN [AN ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR]), SUGAR, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, GLYCERIN, INVERT SUGAR.CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF SOYBEAN OIL, SORBITOL, FRUCTOSE, CALCIUM CARBONATE, SALT, SOY LECITHIN, MOLASSES, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, WATER, CREAMED COCONUT, BHT (PRESERVATIVE), CITRIC ACID. If you’re finding that your new diet isn’t providing you with results, make sure you’re not eating the wrong foods. Take the time to read the food label of every product you buy and eat foods that have a short ingredient list, with ingredients you recognize. A great, whole food option is the revamped #GOFoods™ #Apple #Cinnamon Whole Food #MineralBar. Every ingredient in this bar is made from real food sources that provide you with essential nutrients from #protein, to #fiber to Omega 3 & 6. If you haven’t tried the new GOFoods™ Bar, get yourself a box for the next time you’re looking for a #mealreplacement or snack. Remember, a whole food calorie is much different than a processed food calorie! #Prevention is the key!
