Abused as a child at the hands of her step-mother, she overcame all that life threw at her. Doreen Salmon was born into a working class family in 1935. She grew up in the industrial town of Nelson in Lancashire where both parents worked in the cotton mills and the children brought themselves up. Having suffered at the hands of her cruel stepmother she went on to make a career for herself in the army where she served in Cyprus. On returning home she fell in love with a married man. She went on to have 2 children and in doing so at a time when society frowned upon un-married mothers, had to bear the stigma of being an outcast. It was at this time that she found a saviour in Jesus. This was not only to change her life but became the source from which she drew strength to face the tragedies that were to unfold. When her son was attacked and left for dead she found herself facing a mothers worst nightmare, testing her strength and resolve beyond reason. Some years later when her son received further injuries rendering him completely disabled she found herself incapable of carrying on, saying I cant do this!
