Do you remember the first time that you flew in an airplane? Or - TopicsExpress

Do you remember the first time that you flew in an airplane? Or the first time that you saw a sight that was so beautiful it took your breath away? That feeling of wonder - especially at things that are new and firsts - can be profound spiritual experiences. One of the attempts of Judaism is to renew our experiences and to strive to find novelty (and maybe even the miraculous) in our everyday lives. This evening marks the first Shabbat of 2015. On it we will read the last parsha in the book of Genesis, and next week we will read the first parsha in the book of Exodus. Another ending and beginning. Another fresh start. A clean slate. A moment to stop the world and ask yourself where are you and where you want to be. On Sunday I will be heading on an adventure with other Jewish professionals to Budapest, Hungary and then to Israel for 10 days of growth and learning. It will be my first time in Hungary - and although Ive been to Israel many times before, I will certainly have new experiences and learn new things. For me, it will be a pilgrimage. May this new year be a pilgrimage for you too - with many novel experiences and many moments filled with wonder, as though they were your first. SHABBAT SHALOM and HAPPY, HEALTHY 2015!
