Do you want Better Togethers panic measure devo-max promises or do - TopicsExpress

Do you want Better Togethers panic measure devo-max promises or do you want to vote YES to ensure independence. I have placed inverted commas around the word promises for the following reason:- Thirty five years ago it was precisely what Scots were told when they were voting in a referendum on a much more modest proposal - to create a Scottish Parliament with some devolved powers. A former prime minister, a Scot and, as it happens, a Tory, Sir Alec Douglas Home urged his countrymen to vote No and get something better. The referendum rejected devolution and what they got soon afterwards was 18 years of Margaret Thatchers government and no devolution at all (until, that is, Labour were re-elected in 1997). Ask yourself why Scotland is now so valuable to the Westminster political parties. Could it be that we are too valuable to lose? Could it be that we have the wealth that they crave? Could it be that they know we are serious about, and capable of running our own country better than them? Could it be that they are aware that more Scots now realise that they can choose a fairer, more democratic and prosperous nation? The answer to these questions is of course YES. Thats exactly how I am voting next Thursday.
