WorldFish, a member of the CGIAR Consortium, is an international, nonprofit research organization. CGIAR research is dedicated to reducing rural poverty, increasing food security, improving human health and nutrition, and ensuring more sustainable management of natural resources. It is carried out by the 15 centers who are members of the CGIAR Consortium in close collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. WorldFish is committed to meeting two key development challenges: 1) improving the livelihoods of those who are especially poor and vulnerable in places where fisheries and aquaculture can make a difference and 2) achieving large scale, environmentally sustainable, increases in supply and access to fish at affordable prices for poor consumers in developing countries. Project Coordinator CREL Project, WorldFish Bangladesh Starting of the contract : 01 October 2014 Duration of the position : 1 year. Contract may extend for further period as per project needs. Key Responsibilities: As a member of the CGIAR, WorldFish implements its work through the recently created CGIAR Research Programs. It is an important period for both WorldFish and the Bangladesh country office as it is one of significant and rapid growth at a time when the organization is within a transition period to new ways of working. Under the overall guidance of Scientist/ Wetland and Fisheries Specialist of CREL project, Project Coordinator will be responsible for the following assignment: Provide overall technical leadership to develop and coordinate crab breeding program in Bangladesh Oversee and be responsible for financial and administrative aspects of the project including managing subcontracts with local service providers and managing the project budget Develop a plan of work including budget for crab breeding and aquaculture program Monitoring program indicators, evaluate program results and making recommendations for improvement in program implementation Review existing knowledge and practices on crab sector including crab breeding, nursing, fattening, marketing and aquaculture globally Prepare an feasibility study for a crab hatchery based on operating cost and demand for crab seed Explore potential of crab aquaculture in Bangladesh Coordinate with Department of Fisheries, Forest Department and other key stakeholders Identify the a suitable entrepreneur interested to invest in this initiative Prepare manuals on nursing for raising crablets and grow out systems Develop marketing strategies for crab seed Help formatting alternative feed for crablet nursing, crab aquaculture and crab fattening Work closely with crab fattening enterprises to assess different methods of production in pond, pen or cages and assess scope for improvement and training need Skill Requirements: Masters in Fisheries, and/or Aquaculture, Zoology, Marine Science preferably with research on coastal aquaculture/ fisheries management and/or crab aquaculture Minimum 8 years’ experience in project programming, implementation, and supervision, training and capacity building in direct reports with 5 years’ experience in coastal aquaculture and/or aquaculture management with a focus on crab aquaculture Experience of interacting with national, regional and international Research and Development practitioners and policy makers Excellent proficiency of spoken and written English with strong research and writing skills Knowledge on participatory action research tools and methodology will be added advantage(s) Proven ability to successfully lead a multi-disciplinary team and partners at all levels from senior international organizations and national government, to field staff.
