It was started on 18 February 2014 and currently has information in the domains of Agriculture, Health, Education, Social Welfare, Energy and e-Governance.[5] The name of the portal is a portmanteau of the words Vikas (Hindi for Development) and encyclopedia. The uniqueness of the portal is providing information in local languages in all 6 given sectors . Agriculture: Agriculture section of Vikaspedia portal aims to provide relevant information and knowledge based content related to agriculture and allied sectors, contributed by volunteers in these sectors. As a stakeholder in this platform, you can express your views, share your experiences, participate in relevant discussions,update your knowledge from the available resources and disseminate the knowledge to others. Health: People are in dire need of relevant information on the utilization of indigenous systems of medicine. Vikaspedia attempts to consolidate the information, resource materials and database related to Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy Education: In this era of information technology, ICT is playing commendable role to bridge the gap between haves and have not’s in the education system, particularly in rural India. The education vertical of Vikaspedia is an attempt to empower the children and teachers by providing ample resource materials to achieve the goal of Universalization of Elementary Education in India. Social Welfare: This doamin Sensitize common man about ongoing schemes and programmes. Energy: The energy portal attempts to give information on the above aspects with inspiring stories that would motivate you to use them and derive the associated benefits. e-Governance: E-Governance movement in India is changing the way people access public services.
