Doctor Who: Mission of the Viyrans: Mission of the Viyrans is a one part audio story featuring the Fifth Doctor and Peri. Written by Nick Briggs, it was released by Big Finish Productions in November 2007 as part of a double bill with the three part story The Mind’s Eye. Mission of the Viyrans provided the formal introduction of the Viyrans. This brought to an end the Virus Strand mini-arc in which previous stories to it gave hints of their existence. Of the Doctor and Peri, it is the latter who appears in most of it with the former having a minimal role basically a Doctor-lite episode. Mission of the Viyrans has a very mysterious atmosphere about it and Nicola Bryant as Peri did well in her encounter with the Viyran especially with her reaction to one speaking in her voice (hey if it had been my voice that was being used I would have been creeped out as well). Pretty good introductory story of the Viyrans. The accompanying interviews provides the information on how the Viyrans and there certainly did come back for Big Finish later on.
