Does Jack Bauer really exist? The hi octane drama 24 is set to return to our screens this week but how close is it to reality? Find out about 24 hours in the life of real counter terrorism officers on Tuesday May 6, when West Midlands Police tweet live from their CTU. From joint operations with MI5, to specially-trained forensic officers, airport policing and covert surveillance, social media users will get to experience the work of the unit from 7.45am onwards. Using the hashtag #WMCTU, the unit – based in Birmingham – will take to Twitter to showcase some of their pioneering work to protect the public form dangerous of criminals. WM CTU has been responsible for convicting some of the country’s most high profile terrorists. Working 24/7 the team are part of a national network helping keep the country safe. Tweeting behind the scenes will be a first for Counter Terrorism policing in the UK and follows on from the success of previous events featuring CID, custody and forensics. Head of unit, Det Chief Supt. Sue Southern says: “We are often asked whether the TV programme is anything like real life. Now people will be able to judge for themselves as they experience a day behind the scenes with our staff.” As well as updates on daily activity, never-seen-before video and images will be shared, while the public will have the opportunity to question Det Chief Supt Southern in a web chat between 6pm and 7pm.
